C1 The passive voice and the “se” passive

English loves the passive (“the book was written”). Spanish prefers the se construction.
Passive with ser
| El libro fue escrito por ella. | The book was written by her. |
Pasiva refleja (the natural choice)
| Se venden casas. | Houses are sold / for sale. |
| Se habla español. | Spanish is spoken. |
| Aquí no se fuma. | No smoking here. |
Use se + verb (agreeing with the thing) when the doer is unknown or unimportant — it’s everywhere on signs and in the news.
