A2 How to use “gustar” (me gusta)
advertisement
Gustar literally means “to be pleasing”, so the thing you like is the subject. It feels backwards at first.
| Me gusta el café. | I like coffee. (lit. coffee is pleasing to me) |
| Me gustan los libros. | I like books. |
| ¿Te gusta bailar? | Do you like to dance? |
| No le gusta el frío. | He/she doesn’t like the cold. |
The pattern
Use gusta for one thing (or a verb) and gustan for plural things. The person who likes is shown by me, te, le, nos, os, les. Same pattern: encantar (to love), interesar, molestar.
